Let's do it again!

Watch for more about the upcoming retreat October 3rd-5th in 2008!

Thursday, March 6, 2008

Last minute Reminders...

Our retreat is only days away. I don't know about you, but I am so very excited about it this year! There will be 32 ladies attending our retreat! Some from last year and lots of new faces!!

Make sure you pack:
* slippers (we have to take our shoes off in the main hall where we eat and scrapbook)
* a towel (there are washrooms in the cabins -sink and toilet- and showers in another cabin
* snacks - for those late nights- (optional, of course)
* sleeping bag and pillow (can easily be put into a garbage bag, just like the camping kids do!!)

The boat will leave the Government Dock in Deep Cove at 6:00p.m. Please arrive about 15 minutes early (or more if possible) to unload your car and park it.

Here are directions to Deep Cove:

1. Take Highway #1 over Second Narrows Bridge into North Vancouver

2. Take the first exit after the bridge (Dollarton Highway) east towards Deep Cove. It will lead you right into Deep Cove. But if you miss this turnoff, take the second exit from the bridge (Mount Seymour Parkway) and head towards Mount Seymour. Follow the parkway all the wayto the end, then turn left on Dollarton Highway into Deep Cove.

3. When you drive into Deep Cove you will see the ocean infront of you. Turn right on the circular roundabout thingy and you will see the ocean on the left. There will then be a road on the left that will take you right down to the dock towards the water to unload. It is really narrow, so you can drive down to unload, but you have to drive backwards to get on the main road again. I will be there really early to help you get your stuff down to the dock. There is only one dock, and it is located right beside the Canoe and Kayak clubhouse. There is also a yacht club, but it is to the left and gated, I think. Sorry, ladies, no yacht for us!

4. There is parking allowed along the road. It is secure enough. We've had about 20 cars park there in the past, and have had no incidences. Just make sure you don't leave valuable things inside the car. And make sure that there is no sign that says "NO parking". Up the hill from the waterfront is great parking. I will show you, if you need to find some. Don't worry, just come early enough and you will be just fine!

5. The boat is quite big. I know you will probably have about 3-4 bags of stuff. One for clothing, a garbage bag with sleeping bag and pillow, and some scrapbooking totes. There will be lots of room for those things. DOn't go crazy packing everything, though- take into consideration that you have to shlep everything into the boat, and from the boat, up a little hill to the cabins . OUr boat ride will take about 20 minutes!

6. We will not leave without you. If you are late arriving to Deep Cove, please call my friend Betty at 778-868-0030. I don't have a cell phone, but she does. So at least we will know that you are coming. We will definately wait for you!! Although, try to get away nice and early, since it will be Friday rush hour that we have to deal with!

7. Try to get something to eat before you leave, since we will only be having a snack on Friday night. I think they changed the menu to veggies and cheese trays. etc. There is always juice available, and water, tea and coffee. I think they left out fruit to eat anytime, too.

8. Once we arrive at camp, I will let you know what cabin you are in, so you can get your stuff up to the cabins and change, or whatever you want to do. You can leave your scrapbooking stuff at the main hall. I will set up the tables for everyone. AND then we can go crazy and scrapbook! Oh yes, you do have to play a game, though, since I really like games, and everyone who plays gets a prize!!!!

9. It will be an awesome weekend. I hope you are all looking forward to meeting new friends and just getting away and doing what you love!

See you on Friday!!!!!

~Dunja

PS. On a down note- we have to set our clocks ahead on Sunday morning! Yuck!

Hello Cardmakers and Scrapbookers attending the retreat!

Well, only three more sleeps until the retreat! I hope you are all looking forward to our second annual retreat as much as I am!!!

I just wanted to send some last minute reminders about our upcoming retreat:

1. Remember to bring bedding (sleeping bag, pillow and sheet if you want)
2. Slippers are great, since we have to take our shoes off at the hall where we will be scrapbooking.
3. All our meals will be included, but you are encouraged to bring some snacks for late night scrapbooking, or just to munch on throughout the day.
4. If you are taking a workshop, you will have to supply your own adhesive for the project (I would recommend bringing glue sticks, photo squares, and or liquid fast dry adhesive, snail adhesive, if you want- basically your favourite adhesive).
5. The boat leaves Deep Cove at 6:00p.m. Give yourself plenty of time to drive through rush-hour traffic to Deep Cove, and get there about 30 minutes before the boat leaves. You can drive your car down to the top of the dock ramp, and unload your stuff ( about three cars will fit there at one time). Try not to bring everything- we have to fit 27 people and all our supplies into the same boat as last year!)
6. You will have to find parking in Deep Cove. The camp recommends finding a residential side street, since the park parking lot does not allow overnight parking. So you will have to unload your stuff, and park your cars. Don't worry- there will be 27 of us, and we will have lots of hands to help 'shlepp' the stuff down the ramp! Let's hope the tide is high!!!
7. Try to eat before you come- we will not have dinner at the retreat Friday night, we will have a warm snack around 9:00 p.m.
8. If you want to bring some music cd's you can- we will have access to a radio throughout the day, and we'll plug in some chick flicks to keep us company during the night.

Here are the directions to the Government Dock:
Camp Jubilee Retreat & Conference Centre is a short 30 minute boat ride from the government dock in
Deep Cove (North Vancouver, BC).
To get there:
Go North over the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge
Take the 1st exit Eastbound onto Dollarton Highway
Continue East until Dollarton Highway becomes Deep Cove Road
Finally Deep Cove Road will become Gallant Ave.
The Government Dock is located between
Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak and Panorama Park. Day Parking is available at Panorama Park. Overnight parking is on residential side streets.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me! Until then! Happy Packing and see you all on Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Countdown is on....

Only 4 more days until the 2nd annual Camp Crop-A-Lot! This is extra exciting! The ladies doing the classes are just putting the finishing touches on their samples and getting the supplies ready. It's time to pack. Don't forget your toothbrush, your paper cutter, a pencil, and of course your photos and adhesive to scrap 'til your hearts content.

It's approaching fast!

Camp Crop a Lot is just around the corner and I want to give you a heads up of what items to bring for your photo blocks we'll be c
reating if you signed up for this class. You will need to bring some black and white photos which can be cropped. In total you'll be placing 4 photos on your project and have the top for journalling. The base will have feet to protect it. You can decide on the theme of your block as each one will be unique to your creativity. This project uses LOTS of adhesive so please bring your own with you. I will have dimmensionals and sticky strip adhesive for the embellishments... They're going to look amazing!

If you have any questions, contact me or I'll look forward to seeing you real soon!!

Another message from Dunja....

Isn't she beautiful!
Here's what she has to say:
I am the organizer of Camp Crop-a-Lot scrapbooking retreat. It was such a success last year, the ladies begged me to organize again (twist my rubber arm!!).I wanted to organize a retreat that would be affordable for stay home moms to go to, so last year, I found out about this great Camp on the Indian Arm. I booked the event, and we had about 20 ladies registered. I knew about 6 of them!!!! It was lots of fun!
We stayed in heated cabins, with bunk beds (we brought our own bedding) and each cabin has a washroom (toilet and sink). Rustic, but comfortable! We scrapbooked in a hall, about 2 people per table. We had a tv, so we watched 'chick-flicks' in the early hours of the night, and listened to music during the day. When we arrived, almost everyone got into their pyjamas and started scrapbooking! The retreat has a snack for us on Friday night. Everyone stayed up as late/early as they wanted. It was so much fun! The cook was fabulous!
There were three workshops to choose from, which were being held in the cafeteria. This year, I've organized the event again! It is being held from March 30- April 1st! There are 24 ladies registered already, and I would love to have 30! Please let me know if you are interested in coming! We have four fabulous workshops available, if you are interested (explosion box, photo cube, mini chipboard album- outdoor theme and an altered lunch box). The workshops are only $10-15 each, so extremely reasonable! ALso, everyone will get a prize!I hope some of you will consider coming. The fact that everyone from last year is coming again, says a lot about how much they enjoyed it!

Message from Dunja the organizer of Camp Crop-A-Lot

The retreat is less than a month away! I am really excited about seeing everyone again, and having a fabulous time scrapbooking, stamping, talking, laughing, eating, relaxing, having someone else do the cooking ...
Here is an update on the registrations:
To date, 24 people have signed up for the retreat! I am thrilled to announce that everyone from last year, is coming again!!!!!!! and a few more. Wow!
Ultimately, I would love to have 30 people signed up for the camp. That means, 6 more have to register! Please encourage anyone else that you know, who would love to get away for the weekend to craft with us, to register! They can just e-mail me, and I can send them a registration package!
We will only have one boat picking us up in Deep Cove. It is arriving at 6:00pm. So, we all need to be at the dock about half an hour prior to that time (it takes a while to unload our stuff, and haul it to the dock, and find a parking spot in Deep Cove). If you can, carpool with someone, that makes things easier. Also, since we are coming to Deep Cove on Friday early evening, you will probably all drive through rush hour traffic to get there. Make sure you give yourselves enough time to get there. It is really easy to find. I will e-mail you directions for getting to Deep Cove and the government docks, the week of the retreat.
I hope you are all looking forward to this as much as I am- I've been having fun buying some really nice prizes to give away!!! (Did I mention that everyone will get a prize)
Check out these views of the great outdoors right by the camp and one of the camp from the water.
